Welcome

What is HEdFEx?

We are an academic-focused home school group, meeting in Excelsior, MN, that utilizes professional instructors and small class sizes to support our homeschool curriculum.

We are a group of home educators of all faiths, beliefs, and theories who want a non-judgmental and accepting environment in which our children receive high quality, challenging classes taught by experts.

We offer a la carte classes for preschool through age 14, parent support and networking, field trips, information sessions for parents and more!

J Term fun and a new age range!

Registration is open for our J Term classes and everyone is invited! All J Term classes are open to nonmembers as well as members. We are also excited to offer our first ever class for 15-18 year olds. We’re looking in to the possibility of adding more classes for that age range for spring term as well. If this is something your child would be interested in, let us know!

More PE Sampler!

We’ve added in a second session of PE Sampler because the first one has been so much fun! The next session meets from 3:00-4:00 on October 30, November 6, 13, 20, December 4, and 11. Registration is open to ages 3-14 and both members and nonmembers but is limited to 20 students.

Rebates for tuition?

Interested in classes but need options for payment?  Hedfex participates in Shopping with Scrips. Members sign up to participate and purchase gift cards for places that they would already be spending money: Cub, Old Navy, Home Depot, Super America, Amazon, etc. There are hundreds of vendors in the Scrips program!  Each vendor offers a rebate of the amount purchased.  For example, purchase a $100 gift card for Cub and $4.00 goes in to your Hedfex account to be used for tuition.  Order an Old Navy gift card and get 14% of your purchase back!  Gift cards can be purchased in the form of e-cards that are delivered immediately to your inbox, traditional plastic cards, and plastic cards that are instantly reloadable.  Families and friends of members can participate, too, so if Grandma is remodeling her kitchen and purchasing cabinets from Home Depot, 5% will be credited to her student’s account!  It all adds up!  Please visit Shop with Scrips for more details and contact Jen at coleader2@hedfex.org for questions.

Registration for Non-members opens on August 4, 2014

All of our J term classes and several classes each full term are open to non members starting on August 4th.  It’s a great opportunity to try out the co-op and see if it works for your family.  Or to just take an awesome class!  There’ll be singing, dancing, and creating for everyone!
Forms can be downloaded here and sent in to our Registrar. Available seats will be filled in the order that registrations are received.

Registration for 2014-2015 is open!

We are excited to announce our great class offerings as well as a few new opportunities! Our new location has plenty of space so we have added parent classes, a lending library, and private music lessons through Academy of Music.

Many of Academy of Music instructors have made themselves available to teach private lessons on Thursdays.  They offer not only an amazing range of instruments but incredibly talented instructors as well!  There are offering private lessons in voice, harp, piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, bass, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, flute, recorder, and saxophone.  Arrangements for private lessons are between the instructors and families and outside of Hedfex enrollment but in order to facilitate a connection, we have sign-up sheets available during the open house.  If you are interested in connecting with an instructor for a particular instrument, please sign up.  You can also contact MCAOM directly through their website at Mount Calvary Academy of Music or call them at 952-474-8893 ext 111.

We are moving! We are so excited to announce that after 9 years in the south metro, Home Educators for Excellence (HEdFEx) is moving to a new location in Excelsior!

Starting on September 4th with our fall open house, we will be leasing space at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church at 301 County Road 19, Excelsior! Our new location has triple the number of classrooms, a beautiful common area for parents to relax in, an industrial kitchen for making lunch or holding cooking classes, and huge gym! Our new space will give us the opportunity to offer expanded class offerings as well as a lending library, book club, and classes just for parents!

Mt. Calvary is also home to Academy of Music and their instructors are looking forward to providing our group music and drama classes as well as offering private lessons during co-op hours. Academy of Music offers lessons in a wide range of instruments including harp and voice! More details and sign up sheets will be available from 11am-2pm on April 17th at our spring open house and used book sale. The open house and book sale will be held at our current location in Burnsville at Presbyterian Church of the Apostles at 701 E 130th Street in Burnsville 55337.

Our class offerings for 2014-2015 will be opened for registration to new members on April 17th so stop in and meet some of our instructors, our families and stock up on books and curriculum! The family fee (covers facility rental and insurance) is normally $125. Attendees of the open house who register by April 24th will receive a discounted family fee of $100. For families who only plan on attending for one term, there is a reduced family fee of $65. We also participate in Shop with Scrips and rebates earned through the program are credited towards your child’s tuition. New members will be able to sign up and earn money for tuition over the summer. We’ll have a group discussion on the program during the open house!
